Dominick Maita has more than 20 years of experience recording, mixing, and mastering, working one-on-one with artists and producers. His in-depth knowledge of every stage of the recording process means that he understands all that has gone into a project before it’s ready for mastering. Following his studies with Bill Porter at the University of Miami’s School of Music Engineering, Dominick began his career at RPM Studios in New York City, acting as chief engineer from 1982 to 1986. Over the next 15 years, he worked as a freelance engineer and mixer, working in studios throughout the United States and Europe. His credits during this period include Bryan Ferry’s "Boys and Girls," Herbie Hancock’s "Future Shock," ’til tuesday’s "Voices Carry," and Laurie Anderson’s "Strange Angels," among others (click here for a selected discography). Before joining Airshow Mastering in Boulder, Colorado, in March 2004, Dominick spent four years working as a mastering engineer at Sterling Sound in New York City. Dominick’s approach to mastering centers on refining and enhancing each song in order to bring the artist’s original vision into focus. For that reason, he prefers client involvement. Through experience, he knows when to correct for tonal imbalances, how to dial in more cohesiveness, and when a slight EQ will put a song into better balance. He also has the experience to recognize a great mix-one that needs no further refinement. Dominick has an understanding of all types of music and enjoys working on a wide variety of projects, including mastering in 5.1 surround and SACD formats.
